Physical Therapy: What to Expect
As you prepare for your first therapy appointment, please review our FAQs below. Have additional questions? We’re here to help. Give us a call at 616-594-2000.
What should I bring?
- Insurance card(s)
- Knowledge of your insurance co-pay/deductible – Co-pay will be collected at your first appointment, so please bring your preferred method of payment (we accept cash, check, MC, Visa, Discover)
- Completed patient forms
- Therapy referral/prescription from your physician (if your physician did not fax it to our office)
- A list of questions about your course of therapy
- Preferred device for scheduling appointments
What should I wear?
Dress in comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Your therapy will most likely begin after your therapist has completed the initial evaluation.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive at your scheduled time. Our office staff ensures there is enough time for registration, so there is no need to arrive early. If you’ve forgotten your appointment time, call our office at 616-594-2000 and we’ll be happy to help.
How long will my appointment last?
Your first appointment will last around an hour. During this time, we may check your range of motion, strength, balance, gait, daily functional ability and assess any pain you may be experiencing.
What will my treatment plan look like?
Your therapist will evaluate your individual concerns and together you will develop a plan of care for your ongoing therapy. Receiving treatment during your first appointment will depend on your condition, but before leaving you’ll have an understanding of what your therapy will look like, how many times you will need to come back and when your sessions will take place, so please remember your preferred device for scheduling subsequent appointments. Your referring physician will receive a report of your outlined therapy.
